The Non GMO Society of Manitoba believes it is every citizen’s right in Manitoba to know what they are eating. Most GMO crops are engineered to be round up ready and are therefore contaminated with glyphosate which is not only a human but also an environmental hazard. The World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), issued a statement (also published in The Lancet) that re-classified glyphosate as “probably carcinogenic to humans”. It was a surprise to some in the scientific community because every major regulatory agency had determined that glyphosate, an herbicide often paired with genetically modified crops, was not carcinogenic. In fact, it’s lethal dosage measure is about that of common table salt.
The Manitoba Non GMO Society supports informed consent. Manitoba citizens have a right to know if the foods they are eating are GMO and /or sprayed with glyphosate ( round up). If people want to eat GMO foods and glyphosate it is their choice.—but we believe Manitobans deserve the choice.
We highly endorse teen activist Rachel Parent’s work on this issue. Check out her very educational site at www.kidsrighttoknow.ca
Please educate yourself and make an informed decision. Lets democratize our health and wellness and demand the freedom to know what we are eating.
